Adult
Education – Winter 2011-2012 Book Series
“What’s
the Least I Can Believe and Still Be a Christian?”
A Guide to What Matters Most
By Martin Thielen
Adult Christian Education
will focus on in the weeks and months leading up to Lent on this whimsical but
thought-provoking book by Martin Thielen, a Methodist pastor. The book is
divided into two parts: Ten Things Christians Don’t Need to Believe (such
as “True Christians Can’t Believe in Evolution” and “Bad People Will Be “Left
Behind” and Then Fry in Hell”) and Ten Things Christians Do Need to
Believe (such as “Jesus’ Death: What about Suffering?” and “Jesus’ Legacy: Is
the Church Still Relevant?”) Books will be available for purchase for $9. Each
chapter is only a few pages long and addresses each issue in a unique and timely
way.
Chapters 1-4
Regular Sunday Adult Christian Education meets
each Sunday morning at 9:15am in
Room 113.
During Lent, we are
planning to present a seven-part sermon series addressing these questions. This
will be a great time to invite to church people you know who, for one reason or
another, might be “spiritual but not religious” or have become “lapsed”
church-goers. Adult Christian Education meets each Sunday morning (except
Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) at 9:15am
in Room 113.
